Leona Maguire signs deal with Puma Golf
PUMA Golf a leader in golf apparel, footwear and accessories are pleased to announce the signing of sisters Leona & Lisa Maguire with immediate effect.
Both Leona and Lisa will join the PUMA Golf team with immediate effect, they will be dressed head to toe in the latest PUMA Golf apparel, footwear and accessories from the SS18 range.
Leona currently ranked as the world number 2 amateur is a former Dukes University Senior who will go down as one of the best players not just in Duke’s storied history, but all time in college golf. She’s a two-time Player of the Year. She finished with the best scoring average (70.93) in Division 1 women’s golf history. She had a record 32 competitive rounds in the 60s. She spent 135 weeks at the top of the World Amateur Golf Rankings, which is the longest to date, beating the previous record set by Lydia Ko.
Maguire’s amateur accomplishments while in school also showed her prowess. She won the British Ladies Amateur and played on three GB&I Curtis Cup teams. She competed in five professional majors, and was one of three amateur golfers to qualify to compete in the 2016 Olympics, where she finished T-21.
Lisa Maguire, like her sister has a prolific amateur career. She too attended Dukes University and showed her prowess at college level.
Having won the Spanish Ladies Open Amateur Champion in 2011, she also won European Ladies Amateur Championship at the Noordwijk Golfclub in the Netherlands, becoming the first ever Irish winner in 2011. Following that in December, she and her sister Leona were named jointly as the Women’s Amateur of the Year at the AIB Irish Golf Writers’ awards.
Maguire was named on the Women’s Golf Coaches Association 2015 All-American Scholar Team. In 2016, Maguire won the Ulster Women’s Open Championship at the Royal Belfast Golf Club in Ireland. She registered four match play wins after finishing second in stroke play qualifying with rounds of 76 and 77. On 7 July 2016 she was part of the Ulster team which won the 2016 Ladies Inter-provincial Championship for the second straight year at the Slieve Russell Golf Club in Ballyconnell, County Cavan.
In 2018 Lisa was honoured as one of only two Duke University athletes chosen by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for the All-American Athletes of the Year for the 2017-18 school year
